Time to Vote

(Class62) These are now our final submissions for the main page:
 1
(IAN) I think this one has been carefully thought out in terms of where the buttons go and how it's very clear to the user which buttons can be tapped and what can't. My personal preference is for a design with more personality but other people like simple geometric designs like this.
(Cynthia)-This is my favorite for application of color. Very strong simple design. Agree with Ian about personality-could be even stronger if houses were different objects.
(Esa) First I would like to say that all of the final submissions would work as an iPhone app main page. There is a lot of thought and talent behind these works. This design I like because it has nice colors and a simple and very clever desing using houses as buttons.

(IAN) This one also has had a good sense of design about the layout of buttons and it's very clear how to use it. It's a bit hard to read Dundas! at the top. I really like the geometric pink/blue/green tiles around the edges and it complements the general geometric design very well. I think this is a great design. My personal preference is for a more illustrated look than the geometric look since it gives Dundas more personality but I do think that this is a very strong design. Well done!
(cynthia)-This is also a strong design with good application  of color. It is a bit hard to read DUNDAS at the top. Good to keep a higher contrast between type & background.
(Esa) I agree with Ian and Cynthia that Dundas is hard to read but apart from that the design is very original and it accomplishes a lot with simple elements.

 3
(IAN) This one is my favourite because it tells a story about Dundas using the graphics. The picket fence gives a sense of the historical nature of the town, it's very clear and welcoming to the City of Dundas. The buttons each have some personality behind each feature, and it's easy to read.
(Cynthia)- I think this is one of my favorites too because there is a little storytelling going on with the different illustrated buttons. It could be even stronger if you boosted the color a bit more too. Good simple design too.
(Esa) This is among my top six desings and it would be even better with brighter colors.

 4
(IAN)  I quite like the flags on this design, but I think the coloured markers against the colours make some of it hard to read (especially Down Town). It also doesn't really have a strong sense of Dundas behind it.
(Cynthia)-LOVE the strong use of color but it doesn't relate much to what is special about DUNDAS as Ian stated. The markers bleed a little on the paper and make it a bit hard to read. Watch the contrast between type and background like the type DUNDAS #2.
(Esa) This is a very clear design and would work great in an app.

(IAN) I enjoyed 5,6,8,10,14,15 at a similar level. I think the colours are cheerful and thye're very welcoming. I think 3 & 13 are stronger designs because they give a better senseof personality about Dundas, where as 5,6,10,14,15 would work for any town. They're a bit too general.
(Cynthia)-Good application of color here too. I like the button placement too. Agree with Ian about generality of the design-not reflecting DUNDAS enough.
(Esa) The colors are very good and the buttons work as part of the picture.

(Cynthia)-Another one of my favorites! I love the storytelling aspect of the buttons and great use of color. The letter H is a bit hard to read but could be easily fixed. It makes me want to go and sit down, enjoy a picnic (storytelling/narrative). I want to press a button and find out! This is what good design is all about.
(Esa) This is a great idea and good implementation. Cynthia is right, this makes you want to see what is behind the buttons.

 7
(IAN) This one is very similar to 4 - The overall design approach is good but I think the layout of the words could be improved. Downtown and fun places are a bit squashed and Historic Sites isn't fitting in in a comfortable manner. With more time, this could be worked on and improved.
(Cynthia)- I think this could be stronger with different colors. The color of the type is too similar to the background. I like the use of large type but the word sites is reading as well as other buttons. Good simple design of buttons like #4.
(Esa) Yes, this is quite similar to #4. More colors would make also this design even better.

(IAN) I enjoyed 5,6,8, 10,14,15 at a similar level. I think the colours are cheerful and thye're very welcoming. I think 3 & 13 are stronger designs because they give a better senseof personality about Dundas, where as 5,6,10,14,15 would work for any town. They're a bit too general.
(Cynthia)-Good simple design and placement of the buttons. Agree with Ian about the generality of the illustration. I like the color too.
(Esa) This is a very good design. I would just like that the Welcome sign would have a different color than the tree trunk behind it.

 9
(IAN) This one has all the elements that the app needs but it doesn't really have enough personality in the design. The geometric shapes don't really have a connection to Dundas and seem to be random shapes as buttons. The background colour also doesn't really give a strong impression of Dundas. Is it suggesting sand?
(Cynthia)-I like the simplicity of this but colors could be more inviting. Would be stronger if buttons were little icons that represent something about DUNDAS.
(Esa) This design would need more colors. Very clear and would work on an app.

(Cynthia)-I LOVE the rich color application here! Agree with Ian about the generality and could work for any town. I think there is good placement for the buttons too.
(Esa) My favorite design in this page. The colors and the placement of buttons is just perfect. Welcome to sunny Dundas!

 11
(IAN) This one seems unfinished. I wonder what the white blocks would contain? It's also a bit hard to read the Historic Sites button.
(Cynthia)-Good beginning but some of the type is hard to read. The lack of contrast makes it hard to read. I do like the colors.
(Esa) There is a good basic idea here but it would perhaps need some more work.

 12
(IAN)  Is this one related to Number 1? My comments are very similar - I think that the Fun Places button is too hard to read though with the stripes behind the writing.
(Cynthia)-Good application of strong color here. Some of the type is difficult to read because of the contrast. Need more objects that relate to DUNDAS.
(Esa) This has a similar idea than #1 and this is also a good implementation of it.

 13
(IAN) This is my second preference because it has a great sense of style in the way it depicts the waterfall. I really like how the rocks in the water are buttons. My only concerns are that the LHS button for "historical sites" seems like 2 buttons because of the change in texture in between the two words, and I'm unsure whether the "Welcome" button at the top is a button or just a graphic. It also doesn't mention the word Dundas which I would prefer (designers call this "branding" - it doesn't give you the word Dundas as a brand to connect it with your waterfall.)
(Cynthia) I like the creative use of the buttons here. The color application & storytelling is good too. You get a real sense of what DUNDAS is aboout and whatmakes it special. Good design of space, I get areal sense of movement. Well done.
(Esa) One of my favorites but some of the buttons seem a little detached from the story (downtown and fun places). The waterfall is wonderful. This is a design that users would remember.

(Cynthia)-I LOVE this rainbow-has lots of personality! Good color application. The type is hard to read at the bottom because of the lack of contrast.
(Esa) The A.R. button is quite hard to see but this is a very cheerful design.

(Cynthia)-This has a good color application too. I like the texture of the color. The type is hard to read because of the lack of contrast. Agree with Ian about generality and want to see something specific about DUNDAS.
OVERALL my favorites are 3, 6 & 13 because of the combination of storytelling, simple design & color. WELL DONE class 62! ;  )
(Esa) This is quite similer to the previous one and it has the same problem with the A.R. button.
My favorites were 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 13 with number 10 as the one I liked best. Overall, I think that class 62 can be very proud of themselves. Some of the designs do look like they would be about any town but all of the designs are made in Dundas by children who live in Dundas and in my opinion the connection to Dundas can be thought to come from that. All of the designs show that Dundas is a very nice place to live in.
